Thread: Angle-O-de Angle???

    what would be the best angle of the motor to pump?
    ive heard that straight is not always a good thing but have also heard that too much angle is also not good, can you guys offer a solution?

    mind you,...the plated on the motor have not yet been trimmed for the correct angle!
    ive been also told that the correct angle to line up with the pump is about 4 deg. ???

    Go with 1-2ยบ. Keep the pump shaft and the crankshaft parallel to each other.

    There's been several threads dealing with this exact subject too. There was a good discussion on this just a month or two again but I can't seem to locate it now.

    I am running a single u-joint with out the h bar for more room! As a result I have to have my set up dead on! The result is I have to replace my u-joint about every other season! It starts getting flat spots in it. I had a 19' daytona with an improperly install motor & the h bar along with all kinds of parts came out one sunny day at about 6grand! No bueno. I would agree with mike & also add to grease them frequently! :smile:

    I set mine at about 2 and never had any issues. You just want them off a little so it doesn't wipe out the u joint.

    Why do you guys think you cant line the pump shaft centerline to the crank centerline and have no angle in the driveline? Noisy driveline? Or ?
    Or did it just end up with a few degrees off when you dropped the motor in and youve had no problems so you tell people to do it that way?
    Just curious.

    Thats what I was wondering. I had my rail kit built by Dan at Canyon Marine and he used a bare block with steal dowel set in the crank journals to set the proper drive line angle to the pump. On my install there is no offset. Here are some pics.

    You can run a lenco shaft fine with no problems straight, but U joints don't like it. It will take em out. Its just the way they were designed.

    I actually talked to dan a while back about building a rail kit, actually the same time you posted those pics of your rail kit. He Recommended to me if i remember correctly 1 (might have been 2) degree offset so that you had even wear. At least thats what i got out of the conversation.
