I just bought a Carrera boat with a 502 Magnum. Can anyone tell me what the normal water temperature would be. This is my first boat with a outdrive. All my other boats where jets, and you where able to control water temps with a turn of a knob. The boat has a 143 thermostat and it runs around 180/195 degrees wot and goes down to about 150 at idle.

Mine runs about 1/2 way between the 150° and 180° marks on the temp gauge - call it 165°. Once it warms up the needle doesn't move no matter how hard I run the motor. The oil temp on the other hand is a needle width over 140° at warmed-up idle and when running hard for an extended period gets up to about 165-170° (again between the marked numbers).

OIl temp seems a little on the low side for running hard ? How mwny Revs and for how long? How big of oil cooler?
I have a big oil cooler and lower water temps than you and if I run it hard for a while oil temps get to 235 - 250 .... might want to check that guage.
