I was at the thunderboat race this weekend and saw that htm's where drag racing. I was wondering is this a outdrive class or just a htm class? I would also like to know the rules if anybody knows.

They've run theses HTM's at a couple of the IHBA races at Firebird. The owner of HTM was trying to get this class expanded beyond just HTM's right before his accident. There really weren't a lot of rules outside of it having an outdrive! Never heard anything else about this, might just be a demonstartion show. Was always cool to see them run, they looked so big compared tp the little flatties and hydros.

I checked into this a few years ago. This class is not part of the regular IHBA class structure but they are allowed to run at a IHBA sanctioned event if HTM sets it up with the IHBA or the race track hosting facility. I was advised by the IHBA to contact HTM for the rules for that "class" which I did. At that time, they were hoping to maybe run at a couple of west coast races per year. I think they ran at Firebird (Chandler, AZ) and Castaic in 2000 or 2001. If I remember correctly, some of HTM's rules were that it had to be a stern drive type drive. I think the boat had to be between 22' and 26' in length with a single engine and the maximum motor size was 565" but it didn't have to be a HTM. If you contact HTM, they will probably send you a list of the rules and advise what other races that they are planning on co-hosting and attending this year.

I don't own an HTM, but having "balls to bring them out to the drags" is more a case of not wanting to break the drives. We all know that's the weak point. The drag racing would be a blast, but bottom line is most of the I/O cats over 20' are set up more to run top speed. I think your challange is comparable to the average 100 mph lake cat guy syaing, "Where are all the bad hydros? They always talk how they're the fastest style boats, how come they don't have the balls to come out to the lake on a nice rough Sunday aftenoon?"
Each boat has different conditions in which they'll run their best. It's a shame for the most part, the two aren't combined. Just my opinion though

Yea there were plenty of rules. They were on HTM's web site at one time.
The first set of rules were pretty biased toward the current configuration of HTM's at the time. Bravo drives or B-Max only, engine size, carbs only, gasoline only, size of boat measured from specific places.
I would imagine it has changed some. One of the boats in that pic appears to be injected.

Interesting to read posts from some of the folks still here. Myself included.
A little post blast from the past (http://www.***boat.com/forums/showth...ht=mrpumps+htm)
This one is pretty sad. I was saving it for re-post on Jan 11 (http://www.***boat.com/forums/showth...ht=mrpumps+htm)
Some more HTM archive reading (http://www.***boat.com/forums/showth...ht=mrpumps+htm)
