Thread: Painting My Jet

I am planning on painting my jet before putting my motor back in the boat. What type of paint should I use that will last but won't peal off in the water. I just want a simple black. Nothing special. I just want it to last and not be too expensive. Is there a spray paint that will suffice?

Powder coating. Looks real good. For cheap and still good, use Appliance paint.

If the pump is already powder coated ...and needs no chips repired just scuff it with a red scotch bright pad and paint.....Single stage if a solid color is fine ...any major brand urethane is ok...just as long as its a catalyzed paint.... If its not painted or powdercoated already..then prime it first with an epoxy primer..then paint
There is possibly some information of value for you..........Here.... (http://www.riverratlife.com/forums/b...ubb=forum;f=21)

I think you will all agree that something needs to be done here. I am a complete and 100% novice at painting so please pardon my ignorance. I take it I will have to come by a paint gun? I know someone I can borrow one from and I have an air compressor. I will probably take what you guys have recommended down to the paint shop and have them get me what I need.

Powder Coat is the only way to go, you will kick yourself in the ass later if you don't powdercoat it.

Yep...If painting is not something you want to do a lot of...buying the needed equipment and safety gear would not be very cost effective for just one job!....Powder coat would be the way to go in that case..

I got a quote for powder coating my pump, but thought it was too expensive, so I decided to paint the pump instead. By the time I bought all the materials, then ran out and had to by more, and probably about 50 hours of work, I was done. It ended up costing about twice what I could have had it powder coated for.
    But it looks awesome.
