with 460 Ford. At 5300 RPM's I am doing 58 per GPS. As far as I can tell everything is original. Berkley JE pump. What would the best starter upgrades be?

Have the pump gone through. Assuming an "A" or AB impeller, you should be running more like 70 mph at 5300. I'm betting that with a tight pump, your rpm's will go down and your speed will go up at the same time. No need to put any work in the engine until the pump is top notch.

also are you sure your tach is correct?
This is the first trip out today. This thing had sat for a couple of years and so I rebuilt the Holley 1850 and the alt (bearings were GONE). I have just started to play with it. There was a pretty good chop this afternoon so I am hoping for a glass run in the early am.

if the list# of the carb is 1850 (600cfm)...thats part of ur prob...u need to put a 750cfm or 800cfm DP mech sec carb on it & then try it out...ur starveing it for gas!!
just ask the Ford boy's...they will tell u
