Thread: Are CJ Blocks That Much Better ??

I have a couple of CJ blocks and I can't tell the difference with those and a typical pass. car block. SCJs and Boss blocks are another story. 4 bolt mains and screw in freese plugs are usually a dead give-a-way. Just because its stamped "CJ" does not mean its a CJ.

OK Heres what counts! Is it a 4 bolt main?
If not what is the code of the bottom of the block? All of the early 2 bolt blocks have a higher Nickel content than the later ones. if you want a stronger block, you need to find a block form 1968-1970.Plus they were shorter deck height for more compression.
So if its not a 4 bolt main then its not worth feakin out over... Mine DOVE block with its 2 bolt mains came out of a 1970 Licoln continetal. And I put a 429 crank, and Cobra jet rods fitted with ARP rod bolts and main studs. I spin it to 5500 rpms WOT all day long, and it hits 6300 rpms when racin out of the hole!! And thats with a reagular old NON-Cobra-Jet Block!
    Just my .02 cents

My SCJ block says DOOE on the side of it. It's a 4 bolt main and came with Dooe-r heads. And get this bought the whole motor for $800.00 bucks.
