Thread: What motor and how reliable?

I am just curious what motors you guys are running in your high power cats and how reliable you they are (trouble free hours or little problems). Although my boat purchase is a year away or so, never to early to start thinking.
One reason I ask is this:
Larry Peto 580 Carb (same as Charley) 675hp $21900
    Larry Peto 548 Blower 900 Hp $23500
    That sounds way too tempting.

I'm assume those prices don't include drive cost.

I'm assume those prices don't include drive cost. Correct- this is just the complete motor ready to drop in. No matter what motor I buy, I am planning on running the IMCO Extreme SC...hopefully with a polished lower end.

Those are good prices. Look at Predator, he has been very reliable with Peto blower moters.

    Roln,
If all things are equal and they are both turn key, then I would get the 900 Blower motor....225HP for $1600 is too good to pass up....I do not believe the Blower Motor will be that much more complex to maintain than the N/A motor; both can be complex depending on who builds them and from the Poker Run results at Havasu it appears that Peto builds some solid motors.
I would take a closer look at what is included between the two though...it appears the 675HP is listed as Turn key and comes with a couple more items then the 900.

it appears the 675HP is listed as Turn key and comes with a couple more items then the 900. You may have a good point there. I will have to check on that. But if its turnkey, you had the same thought as me: 225Hp for $1600--can't pass it up.

You may have a good point there. I will have to check on that. That prices doesn't include the bell housing and Exhaust (IMCO)--he quoted 600 and 1300, so an additional $1900. So now its really 225 HP more for $3500 additional-- Still a smokin deal!

Cuz I just bought a house and have no $$$- hehe
I love Howards- they make a beautiful boat. If its still around in a year, I'll have to give you a call, that may be a possibility.
