Thread: Edelbrock head question

Okay, I know they aren't the best head out there, but I'm on a very tight budget. I need your input.
I've got the gen VI BBC 502 w/rect. ports. Performer RPM intake.
I was gonna have CSTRAUB just grind me a cam to work with the stock heads (upgraded rockers, lifters, pushrods) and exhaust. The intake was also going to be replaced with the Air Gap.
I found new assembled Edelbrock Performer RPM alum. heads for marine application for 1350 a pair.
I can probably squeeze this into the equation if they will work with the stock Indmar exhaust manifolds and risers.
I know many like the other heads like, AFR's, Brodix, Canfields and others, but they are just out of my reach.
The engine is at 415 hp now, any idea what these heads, a good cam from Chris, and an Air Gap intake will get me?. I know carb work will be necessary, but that will come last. (currently Holley 750 vac secondary).
    Please help.

If they will fit on a 502...If you can aford it I say go for it. If you wish to upgrade later on you can always have them ported. You can run Higher CR on AL heads vs cast iron and still run pump gas. Lets not forget about the 70+ lbs you just removed from the back of your boat. I am not a Chevy guy so I really can't give you a hp #, but 500 ish should be np( I am sure you could make more). I know they will "bolt up" to the exaust. I do not know If they have a higher/ lower postion then the stock( once again not a chevy guy)

They will work fine. The heads numbers out of the box are okay but when ported they respond quite well. If you can get them for that kind of money they would be a good deal and a good building block if you go bigger.
With those heads you should achieve around 530 to 550HP. You will also knock off 70# of the back of the boat.
The negative. According to EBrock the springs are rated for 125#'s and 310#. No where close to being enough for marine application. You will need to budget around $200 for springs for the project.

Today is fine but today is not a smart day for me, I am still trying to recover from my first italian christmas with my in laws. Why do they talk so loud!!!
I will be gone after 5pm to look at a race car for a friend that he's thinking about buying.

Those are not complete man. They are heads, valves studs and guide plates only.
The Marine heads do not come complete. All other Performer RPM heads do though.
And..... I have tried a dozen times to buy those from Flatlander. They have NEVER had them in stock.
