Hey guys I need some info, my Dad is repowering his boat in the next few weeks and is looking to sell the motor's he is taking out and I was wondering what he should ask for them ($) There are two, here is what I know, Chevy BB 454 w/Gale Banks twin turbos (single carb), 12 qt. pans, new high torque mini starters, Crane rollers, Mallory HyFire Ignition, Holly carbs. Motors are compleate turn key. Have no idea how many hours are on them (he has put about 10 hrs. on the in the last 7 years) but they run great and burn no oil. They are coming out of a 28' Campbell that weighs about 10,000-12,000 lbs. and the boat runs 60 plus with 3 lbs boost. Would like to hear your opinions. I have an idea ($) but don't want to give them away and don't want to insult anyone either so I am turning to those in the know.
    Thanks
    Chris

He is 68 years old and does not have any need for a high performance setup. As I stated the boat weighs 12,000 lbs, it has a sleeping berth, kitchen and a full head w/porcilan toilet, it's no porker runner!! He is installing a couple of GM crate motors that he can turn the key and putt around and not have to deal with high octane or loading up and the like. He has compleatly gone threw the boat, new trailer, new interior, new wiring/gauges, everything has been redone except the motors so rather than rebuild these he is buying new with a warranty. Hope this answers your question.

I'll take a shot, not knowing zip about them other than what you said.
I may blindly pay 1,500 ea. Of course thats just what I may risk.... No insult intended.....
    Peace out,
    DB
No insult taken bud, but I have seen on ebay a few times where just the Banks turbo setup has sold for that much and more. Believe me guys he is not trying to offset his retirement with the selling price of these motors and also not hiding anything about them either, just looking for a fair market value (for both parties). Thanks for the replys.

There has been a lot posted on here on how the crate motors aren't tolerenced or cammed for marine use.See if GM warrents marine use and hit up one of the motor gurus on here for advice before taking the plunge.

You could list the engines on EBAY for what you feel they are worth and list them with a best offer option.I have seen fwc. 330 hp bbc marine engines that were used and complete 2500 hrs. sell for $5000. for pair.Your engines should sell for alot more.If you parted them out you could do even better.

According to a few guys that my dad has talked to at places like Greenwood Chevrolet, and Scoggin Dicky Chevrolet two of the largest GM Performance dealers going they said the motor is the same motor that mercury uses. They asked what his application was and he told them he was using them in a boat, they told him he would have to change the steel freez plugs out to brass, change the head gaskets, change water pump, and use a different oil pan. Other than that they said it would work fine.

I have a brother in law that put a 502 in a 24 ft spectra probably 10 years ago----probably one of the first stef's gen 5 v-drive pans made!!!----not one bit of trouble with it-----and straight out of the crate!!!------crate motors will work no problem as long as you have an oil cooler, and not try and run balls out for 15 miles-----if you have to do that, then buy a race motor set up to do that!!!

Thats what my dad was told, and the only thing with the cooler is that you have to drill a larger passage or something because the restriction of the cooler will cause the oil to bypass the filter.......or something like that.
