Off the top of my head???? I would have to say no!
But I would think it would make a loud POP!!
can a direct short in the posotive battery cable against the exauast
cause a carb to backfire?

Ok...here it is...
:::Probable scenario:::
You shocked the system by touching the engine block, "possiably" throwing your timing spark off for a second, resulting in a back-fire (un-burned fuel too early). Chances of happening? 1/1000
That took over 4 cups of coffee to postulate! Please give credit when credit it due...
Thanks

depending on the ignition u are running yes it could cause it to backfire through the carb ,just the same as a car when the battery gets low they start running crappy and yes they will backfire and pop through the carb.low voltage can cause some weird things to happen.
well,i've replaced damn near the whole ignition system c'ept the distributer, i know, the most important part!
springs are good,timing is at 34 degrees,no metal on the heads,all i found
was that damn battery cable,not backfiring on the trailer,see what it does in the water
thanx
p.s. if there is a one in a million chance of somthing strange happening
I'm usually the dude who gets to ask the question: w.t.f is happening now! eek!
well, replaced the posotive lead, went to the lake and ran like the day i bought it,cept i lost the handhold cover gasket some where,along the way,small oil leak to fix,and holiday time
thanx for the input,have a good time and party like a hooligan!
