All Sony that have the wired remote option, and Pioneer Premier 04 and up that have the steering wheel remote option.
You can run most brands of stereos that have an IR remote by using a PAC adaptor. I think it's the SC1

The SC-1 is a learning IR remote which will interface Access Technologies MRC-2 or RC-1B marine commanders. It wil allow you to control most aftermarket stereos that comes with an IR remote with the marine commanders. The MRC-2 and RC-1B was originally designed to control Sony's line of headunits, until now. The SC-1 allows you to control Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion or most other brands of stereos. Comes with 1/8" jack to allow the MRC-2 or RC-1B to plug into directly. Will also work for Sony's RM-X2S, RM-X3S and RM-X4S rotary commanders.
Note: The SC-1 interfaces will only work with infrared remotes that use the common 38-40kHz carrier frequency. Consult with equipment manufacture to determine the carrier frequency.

Chances are that it will work fine. I have several Alpine remotes of different model years in my garage that worked the other's headunit... Shouldn't be a problem.. The module there is basically a learning IR repeater system....

Can I see a picture of the bezel without the marine commander attached ?

I'm sure RD will post one for you, but the bottom of the bezel is just flat with 2 screw holes for the remote's screws to pass through and a large hole for the remote's wire nub to pass through.. The remote's mounting hardware is what holds the unit in place. It looks and attatches micely
