Spline rattle. Where the drive spline mates to the gear drive. Do you have the proper amount and type of gear oil in the front cover? The old B&M tech manual discusses this issue.
At idle there is a rattling noise coming from the front of my 420 megablower. Thinking it was the drive snout bearings, I replaced them. Its still noisy.
Has anyone experienced this problem before?

80-90 gear oil. When I had the snout off the splines felt tight. Is there more to it?
What is the fix?
You might try contacting the Blower Shop in CA, they've done a lot of work with the B&M stuff. Be curious what you find out, I have a 420 also (661) 299-5483

I just pulled my 250's off. One was loose...and the other was VERY loose.
Contacted the Blower shop they said B&Ms were notorious for excessive lash in drive gears. It is not uncomon for the 420s to be noisy. They said it would not hurt anything to leave it that way. Damn anoying sound!!
My 250 is very quiet....
I had to replace the couplers with the spline's in them due to much wear and they were very loud. The new ones had splines the full length of the couplers which made them alot stonger. I would disconnect you belt and see how much play you have by rocking your pulley back & forth.
Every B&M I have ever owned has rattled.
Grin and ignore it.
