Well guys, here we go. I'm finally getting started on the rework of my Bahner. Kind of breaks my heart to tear into this thing, but I know when I'm done it'll be even better than before. Plans call for a set back pump, better internals like an Aq. shaft, stainless impeller and inducer, controllable tunnel plates, blu printed bottom, and a blown alky 496. I'll be losing the interior for some carbon buckets, and as this project unfolds, I'm sure there will be variances from this, but for now, that's the direction I'm headed.
Here's some pics. I'll post them as the progress continues.
My place. This is where I'll do most of the work

This is how it looked before with everything installed.

This is after getting most of the stuff out of the way, getting ready to pull the pump.

This was my set up before. KISS.

and with the intake finally out. As of now there are exactly three inches from the back of the intake cutout to the outside back of the transom. I don't intend to cut through the transom so taking into account the 3/8" thickness of my transom, adn the 1/2" I can take off the back of the intake, I can move the pump back a total of about 3 1/8". Not a lot, but enough to make it worth the while.

I have a lot of the engine parts, so I'll start getting some pics together of all that. I'll do a build up on the 496 in another thread.

good luck with it. It ran good before and should be unbelievable with the new motor and mods. 3-1/8-inch is a pretty healthy set back. It'll do wonders for the boat. what angle are you going to re-install the intake at?

Thanks for that, Mike. I'm pretty sure it's going to get with the program when I'm done. As far as the angle, it depends on where the shoe stacks up. I'm going to need a considerable amount of adjustment above the keel, so I'll set it where the bighting edge of my thickest shoe is at zero with the keel. I was told I won't be wanting to go below the keel with the bighting edge. I'll probably use a tapered shoe, as well. It'll probably work out to be about the standard 4deg.
