From what I understand, the only differance on a marine fuel pump is that they have a over flow spout that will dump the fuel in to the bottum of the bilge if the diaphram ruptures. but it seams that they are about 50.00 dollars more than a regular high performanc pump. any one seen a marine style out there (new) from a supplier for around 80.00 dollars? what style are you running?

I am running a Holley blue electric pump. No expert on the subject, but fuel in the bilge just doesn't sound safe.

The object of any marine fuel system part is to keep gas and fumes from collecting anywhere in the boat. The vent on the marine fuel pump should be connected to a clear plastic tube that runs up to the flame arrestor on the carbureator. This way if the diaphram develops a leak 1) you the fumes will be directed to the carburetor and not the bilge and 2) you have a chance of noticing it before you dump a ton of fuel into the bilge. Marine fuel pumps,I am told, also have a double diaphram to if it ruptures it does not dump fuel into your crankcase.
All this is to reduce the chance that you go boom in the event a part of your fuel system fails.
    Hope this helps. Doug

Call Clay Smith Cams @ 714 523-0530. I think they make one of the very best mech. fuel pump out there. With the vent tube they cost $115.00. 100.00 without the vent. I know it's a tad more then 80.00.
Talk to Sherri and tell her that I sent ya. She'll hook you right up.
SoggyJet is correct, it goes to your spark arrestor.

Yesterday I bought a fuel pump for my Tahiti, The gal at the parts store said the pump was in the tank so I said look for a bigger truck listing and she came up with an RV pump.......guess what ? It has an overflow tube! 30 bucks or so.

I have a marine 460 Ford pump that was removed from my engine with very little use. I would be willing to take $40.00 for it plus shipping. Ivan
