How many wedges can i put on a jacuzzi wj pump? I just started working on my pump for the boat I'm restoring and noticed I was missing a bolt which holds on the steering/place diverter. Got to cleanning up the pump when I noticed it looks like the person whom I purchased the boat from had put at least 2 wedges. It doesn't look like I can even get the bottom bolts in. This looks like over kill to me. Should I remove one or all of the wedges? I am putting a 454 with about 525hp back in, if this makes a differance. Wish I could attach a pic but it keeps saying image no good.

i have the same pump you have and mine came with 2, 4 degree wedges. and i now have a place diverter on it. all it will do is give a little more lift on the nose of the boat. so far as the bolts i noticed on my wedges the holes had been reamed out a little so the bolts will fit.

Get rid of the bolts. Get a stick of SS threaded rod and make your own studs. The threads in your bowl will love ya.

if you think about it, using the wedge on a Jacuzzi is really a bad way to lift the nose of the boat. The bowl has a built in nozzle. In stock formthe nozzle directs the water right out of the steering nozzle. If you put a wedge on it, that doesn't change the direction of the bowl nozzle, so now the steering nozzle is obstructing the water...More wedges will only accentuate the problem...Best bet is to have the bowl nozzle removed, and have the bowl adapted for a berk style diverter(cheaper)
Ive got a nice 12wj impeller for sale if anyone is interested...

WOW, looks like 3 wedges. Id get them out. I bet your boat goes faster without them. You be the judge though. Try it with them, then try without.
Unless that bowl has been modified, it will look like this when you take the wedges off.

If you have never talked to Jack at MPD, give him a call. He knows a lot about these pumps, and pumps in general...
My impeller is still for sale. With all that power I bet you would pick up several mph with it

Got the wedges off today. A little heat goes a long way.
My bowl doesn't look like yours, The cone can be removed. The cone pc. is bolted to the back of my bowl. My bowl is complettely flat across the bolting holes. The pcs coming off the bowl went in this order. Bowl, 4degree wedge, 2 additional wedges(which I am removing) the bolt on cone pc, then the housing for the steering and place diverter. It looks like the bowl vanes have some pcs broken off the leading edge. can I reweld and grind?
