Had carb problems this weekend. Did some research and found out mine is a marine 715 cfm. The motor is a 454 Hardin in an 88 21 ss Ultra. Is it better to rebuild or by a bigger carb (maybe 800cfm or 850cfm)?

better yet, give Jesse a call at BIGS Performance. BIGS builds/rebuilds Holleys specifically for your motor and application instead of buying one off the shelf that's set up to run on many different motors.
BTW, I was not a Holley fan at all until BIGS did a carb for me.

Now just hold on there fella...I'm using the same carb list#(9029) 715 vac sec. On my 468 9.75:1 Chev...plenty big! Tryed a 850 DP, did nothing but use more fuel! No higher RPM'S and the responce was better with the 715. And a friend uses the same 715 carb on a higher comp. 468 that spun almost to 7000 rpm with a team G manifold. So bigger may not always prove better.

I wouldn't nescessarily go bigger, but I'd definitely get a double pumper. A 750cfm set up right should do you well. Disco has an 800 cfm double pumper that looks like, is probably a little too big for the motor but works good. $50 at the Long Beach swap meet and $13 for the rebuild kit. If I found a 750 for that kind of deal, I'd probably switch, but it ain't broke just ugly. Mechanical secondaries are a better deal for boating though.

Thanks for the info. I have also heard that mechanicals are better for boating. I think I might try a 750 double pumper.
