Anyone have one of these motors?
    http://store1.yimg.com/I/azspeed_1829_138022
    How do you like it?
How much did it cost to marinize it?
Did you go with the Demon or EFI
    What drive did you do?
How do you like it overall compared to a Mercury package?
Who did the work for you? Manufacturer/engine shop?
HOW MUCH MONEY DID YOU SAVE?

Damn you ask alot of questions for a lurker.
You might also post this in Gear Heads as the traffic and responses there tend to be of a little more serious nature.
On a serious note, didn't they put one of these in a 25' or 26' cat a few issues back in Hot Boat? Seems to me you could go through and marinize it and still be money ahead over a blue engine.

Don't have one, but know people who have and they love it
They say around 3k to marinize it including headers
They went with the Demon Carb
    Bravo 1 XR
Like it better. Cheaper w/ more performance
    Midnight Marine did the engine
Over what? Go to any other reputable engine builder and see what 600h.p. costs.
They said that they were in the motor package around 28k total for engine, drive, gimbal, and accessories. A blue motor is somewhere in the upper 30's and is only 525 h.p.

Have a good friend who has a pair of them in his 40 Hallett with IMCO's. I've driven the boat, fabulous. Paul Pfaff did the marine conversion. We don't discuss costs however...

Do a search for Chevy 572. I asked the same question in November and received a ton of replies. Check it out.

There are four different motors that you can use.
I have priced this out for a few customers and have a list of parts needed to PROPERLY marinize the engine. After all was said and done cost including teague drive and hp gimbal was around $30,000.00 (with absolutly no warranty from the manufacturer).
The engines are listed in the GM Performance Parts Catalog.

Clearances need to be "loosed" up a bit. Way too tight to run in a marine application.
Power is awesome from this combo. Torque is unreal.

Bob Brown in the Power Talk/High Performance column in the front of ***boat talked about the 572 a few months back and gave it a lot of praise.
On the other hand, Mike Finnegan (Cyclone) did an article in January this year on "Recipe For A Hard Chargin Chevy." He did a build up on a 630 HP 540 that cost under $9K. Page 132. You could go to Speed-O-Motive and hand them the article(parts list) and you could come back and pick it up. They could have made it a 572 at about the same price. This 540 in the article was put into a Rogers v-bottom that was part of the Muffler testing in the last issue.

Do the clearances need to be "loosed" up a bit because of the sustained higher RPM of a marine motor or because the motor is normally running cooler that an automotive engine? If the second, could this be avoided running a closedcooling system?
    Thanks!

Excuse my ignorance, but what does it take to "marinize" a motor? :mix: Are the tolerances just loosened up as stated above?
