Thread: To Droop Or Not To Droop?

  1. #1
    GOT WATER ??
I have a 73 Spectra20 w/a jc. If I am going to put a droop on it I know that I will have to get a jg or cut my jc.
I am going to to put a Place diverter on it first. Then we will see.
My real question is: Will I really gain that much with a droop?

I have a 21' Howard daycruiser, I put on Places new droop and saw an honest 2mph on GPS but I think handling suffered a little.
I did not have good luck with the bolt on ride plate no matter which way I adjusted it up or down my boat would porpoise wildly. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/foru...s/tongue06.gif

The change in performance because of a droop depends on the hull some they help some they don't I belive the place diverter droop has 4 degres up in the design thats what causes the porpus I WOULD NOT INSTALL A DROOP UNLESS YOU HAVE A DIVERTER. You could install a wedge to see if that helped your porpus like a 2 degree down wedge.

Got Water, forget about droop snoot.Keep your JC as it is,get a hydraulic operated placediverter ,it will give you the performance without the snoot.Put the trim buttons on the steering wheel for good positioning and quick feedback. All you need is to trim the hull out of the water for less vetted surface, and the placediverter will do it,to gain a little more speed.

can anyone tell me what to expect out of a place diverter as far as speed? I know it probably depends alot on the hull and pump (low pro 18' Tahiti with a JC). I've heard gains of 5mph and others say it's more like 2mph. While any gain would be good $600 for a 2mph gain is kinda pricey imo. I know I want a divereter at some point in time, but right now if all I'm gonna get is 2mph I'm thinking there are other mods I can make for the same or less money to gain the same or more.
    Advice anyone?

I'm no jet expert, but you might want to consider holding the nozzle, and putting your thumb over the end. It works for my garden hose. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/foru...es/happy15.gif
Then it would be called the "Bubbledeck Diverter". http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/foru...es/happy34.gif
Just trying to help. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Bubledeck, your gains should be 5 to 15mph. I`d say that diverters are gonna give you banmg for buck more than any other mod.

HH actually there is something you can do to help. I want to try your theory, but after doing a dry run just now in the garage I find that I can't reach the wheel while holding my thumb over the nozzle .. so if we meet up in Havasu the 22nd, that will be YOU'RE job to thumb the nozzle :-)

DONE. You don't have to ask me twice to go to Havasu. I better start thumb-wrestling to get in shape. Of course, I will probably get parched performing that job...I'd better hydrate myself, and carbo-load for the trip. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/foru...es/happy33.gif
    Any suggestions?
