From my limited information, I have heard that, if possible, clear annodize it.
What is done by a lot of those with aluminum, is to polish and then coat it with Sharkhide. It is suppose to hold up well in salt water.
Just take unpolished alum to a powder coater and have it powder coated in "chrome Powder Coat". It really looks chrome but is powder coat. Then you don't waste your time with polishing it all and worring about the clear comeing off later.
The wheels on my bike are done with the chrome powdercoating...it looks pretty good and the maintenance is basically nothing. When they are clean, from ten feet away they look just like the polished alumminum frame. But when you get up close you can tell a difference fairly easily.
well here's what I've found so far in my breif research.......
The anodize place said that clear ano would only be good for a few days....
whatever. I mentioned it wouldn't be "submersed" in salt water, but merely
dipped into it, then later washed.....
the powder coat place (a pretty big business here locally) didn't have any
clue about the chrome powder........ he suggested silver, with a clear
top coat..... it looks like freakin silver paint IMO... so that would be a
big step backwards to me........
I'm still looking for the chrome powder solution........ I have one of those
small home/hobby powder coat gun kits from Eastwood, but haven't tried
it yet. It's not the application part of it, but more the bake issue......
so, the mention of "sharkshide" I need to check out. clear ano looks like
a "no" vote, mainly due to available shops with that large of a dip-tank.
and so far a no vote on powder..........

I had chrome powdercoated Boze wheels. They looked great, but up close you could see the orange peel (like in paint). But super easy to keep clean. Just soap and water, then dry.

Contact Livorsi. They clear coat their polished pieces, not sure if they are powder coated or an actual paint but Jasco premium paint remover took it off.
