This was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Wichita Eagle Newspaper a couple of weeks ago. A resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange in a nearby pond and went to investigate. It turned out to be a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's basketball which became stuck in its mouth!!
The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive, but unable to, because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball out, but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate it and release the hungry catfish.

Most of the facts are true, however, I saw that article on "Urban Legends" quite a while age. The fish did have a ball stuck in him mouth which is interesting, but it did not happen recently....Stupid fish, can't get 'em to bite a hook but the stupid thing will swallow a ball

That's a hilarious story! And Wichita is my hometown too. All my relatives live there still and while I'm skeptical I can find out if that story is true or not as my parents subscribe to the Wichita Eagle
I would have took that ball out of his mouth and put a hook in it and fought him for a while before i released him. :eat:

I would have taken the ball out of it's mouth and then netted it and had me some mighty tasty fish for quite some time!!!
Wichita is my hometown and I read the paper everyday. That was in the paper late last summer if I remember right. It was just a small pond in a sub-division around here.
