Thread: Ever Heard of a Mercruiser Jet Drive?????

I went to look at a boat for sale, which is set up with a Mercruiser Jet Drive. This thing looks exactly like a Panther to me, but I have never before heard of a Mercruiser Jet. It's a model 400 drive, and appears to be a 1973 vintage unit. I already know all the pros and cons of the Panther drive, and the boat is not for me, but for a friend who may want to get involved in jetting. If there is anyone out there who has seen or heard of a Mercruiser jet drive, please let me know.

    Hey steve,
I have seen a merc jet drive in the mercurser factory manuals. It is the same manual with TRS and TRS II breakdowns. They look pretty neat actually. What kind of boat is it in??? Hope this helps

MerCruiser built jets for a short time during the mid 70's. It was really a nice package, but very expensive. They only came with 400HP 454 chevy and had built in adjustable nozzle for trim. The cover did make it look like the Pather, but it was a totally different. They where a mix flow design and the impeller could be removed with out breaking the seal at the back of the boat. I think all had stainless impellers, I could be wrong. The only boat I ever saw with one was an 18' Avenger tested by Trailer Boat magazine.

http://docksidemarineinc.net/Jet_Boats/jet_boats.html Here is a site so you can see what the Mercury jet looks like as far as I know thay make them from 90 to 220hp. I think that 220hp would go good in my 12foot jon boat!!
