I am looking at a new boat. it is a 22 stoker. with a evinrude 300xp v8. right now the motor is completely stock. and I was wondering what I should expect from this motor. what kind of mods should I do to see more speed? this boat will be our family boat so reliabilty and the ability to pull skiers tubes etc.. is a must. I was just wondering what these motors respond best to.
any advice would also be appreciated.

Completely stock and keep them under 6000rpm and they will live forever. If you want to mod it, check with http://www.montyracing.com

Well I must chime in here, I just sold my 22 Stoker with a V8 XP300, mine had heads and some minor port work. Mine was a mid 80MPH boat and was VERY dependable and when proped right would pull anything. You should talk to racer "Al Stoker" and have him help with the perfomance mods and you will be very happy. I want to add that I LOVED my 22 and only sold it to buy a 26 Stoker and it is the shit!!
    Good Luck

    Hey Buryley,
What do you think of this boat? Would it make a good lake recreation boat?

I know it would make a great lake/rec boat, and fun!! I can tell you both of mine handle rough water so good it is amazing, I was out in Havasu this weekend and it was blowing pretty hard and was really rough "read white caps" and I was out racing around and was out beating stuff I should not be able to, and laughing all the way!!!
    Go for it,
But if you don't call Racer "Al Stoker" and get his blessings you could verywell get yourself in a pickle
He will know the boat so ask.
    Good luck
    PS Nice find!!!
Oh BTW it's the same colors as mine "Just a bit smaller"

The V-8 are a dependable engine when set up right, in stock form they should be proped to turn 61 to 6200 rpm and run on 91 octane fuel, poor fuel and over propping is that engines enemy. Like any thing when you try to make more power (not very hard) from the same parts reliability will suffer. Most likely I will no the history of the boat if you need info but like with any used boat get it checked before you buy it.

I thought the OMC V8 had vibration at 6200 RPM that needed to be kept away from... hence the <6000 warnings? Isn't that why guys lighten them up?

Tom the vibration problem at low to mid 6 is with the v6 crossflow not the v8

The boat should be coming down to you in the next couple of weeks. I know the boat is in perfect shape and has been maintined by Al only. When it gets dropped off there I will come by and ask questions. I have been around the boat since it was brand new and still looks the same today.

I had alittle trouble with my V8 but it was due to over heating and done blew it all up. I don't know what they did to it but it was dynoed at 340 hp at the prop, I use a big 30 pitch chopper and open exhaust! Louder than hell, but does it dance on the water..100+ boat...I love my V8........( . )( . )..........Use the best gas, oil, sparkplugs etc also....

The size of the engine speaks for itself....
