Here comes the stupid question. Why is chrome not as good? Is it a matter of strength or durability?
Chrome looks just as good new but iis more vulnerable to rust.
They were chrome. Not the best, but for the price, they were good enough.

A chrome plating job is only as good as the prep of the metal under it. Less expensive jobs show a slightly less than perfect prep job. The metal has to be polished before it goes through the plating precesses, and there are definately different grades of polishing. These fenders , when you looked closely, showed polishing marks under the chrome, not completely mirror perfect. Production chrome job. From 2 feet away, you can't see it, and they look fine. They're probably not copper plated under the chrome either. They were definately a budjet thing, but like I said, for the most part, they look awsome.
The reason I like stainless over chrome is that if you do happen to get fine scratches in your polish job, and lets face it, boat trailers are continually around sand and mud and dust, and people will sit on fenders, and set things on them, so they WILL get scratched, is that you can polish stainless fenders. Scratches in chrome are permanant. :coffeycup
