Looking for somewhere not as crowded to take the family boating and skiing. We have been going to KatherineÂ’s Landing for the last 3 to 4 years, but the crowds and launch facilities are just to busy. I am sure some of the fine folks here on Hot Boat have ventured up to Cottonwood and boated. Without giving away your secret spots, how is the boating and skiing? Looking at the maps the lake gets bigger, we run a 20-foot day cruiser, how is the wind in the afternoon? Are there any accommodations locally besides the RV lots or do you need to drive up each day from Laughlin? Any advise or recommendations are appreciated.

There is a hotel, restaurant, and store at the marina.
The basin can get some big water on a windy day for a 20'. On a windy day you may want to find a sheltered cove from the wind.

It is beautiful and uncrowded up above cottonwood. You need to drive up their though with a 20 foot boat. If you go by water then you want to get back about noon. That large part of the lake can get really nasty in the afternoon. Not because of other boats. Wind and whatever Mother Nature does to it. Last summer before we had the house in Havasu we would go up there in the morning and come back across early afternoon. It would get somewhat choppy at times and my boat would take it well but it was a bumpy ride. 20 footer probably isn't going to feel too well if you can make it.

Cottonwood is the place to go, we usually stay in Laughlin, and drive the 45 minutes to Cottonwood. Much less crowded than Katherines, and the trip up to the dam is awesome.....only drawback, the water temp is a little colder.
    Have fun.....

They do have "full hookups" ran by the resort/marina they also offer rooms (24?) thru the marina. Dry camping ran by the Park service is first come-first served. The RV spots are booked way ahead so plan and call first. the campsites do allow RV's but enforce quiet hours, so it can get a lil hot in the evening w/out A/C.
morning trips to the south (down river, KL) makes for a smoother trip back with the afternoon winds that prevail from south. otherwise great coves to beach and play all over. You can travel toward hover Dam but traffic is limited, i think to Tues.-Sat.??

put in at cottonwood and go to the left really nice, run to the dam, stop at willow for lunch(they have fuel if needed) ,lots of nice places to stop and enjoy, hot springs up by the dam, like they said ,ride to K/L in the afternoon will be rough post over on www.lasvegas***boat.com theirs always someone going out
As stated before I've gone up there and love it. But I actually have a question. How is the water depth up to the damn. I think I read somewhere you have to watch out when getting up there a ways. I've gone quite a distance but not even to Willow. Didn't want to hurt my boat and it was a long ride from Katherine's anyway.

Water is very deep all the way to Willow. Water depths vary below the dam due to varialble flows from Hoover.
You can't go north of Willow from Memorial to Labor Day.

Info on lake access to Hoover Dam can be found here (http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/pad.../canoenew.html)
Looks like from Memorial day to Labor day it's ok to boat up except Sun & Mon
