Thread: 40 or 10 to Havasu, need some input

Need a little advise/input on the best route to Havasu from Ventura. I've always gone 126 to 5 to 14 to Pear Blossum to 15 to 40, and thought that was the best route. Then last weekend I almost got splattered head on by a big rig (crossed onto my side of the highway) on the Pear Blossum on the way home, and needless to say, I'm looking for a better route. Is driving through LA traffic on the 101 to the 210 to the 10 a better way to go? Any faster, safer, whatever? Someone has to have more experience on this trip than me, so I'd really appreciate any input you guys may have. Thanks in advance!!

I sometimes take the 10 to desert center drive. But then you have to go through parker and around the lake if you're staying in Havasu. But Desert Center Drive can be pretty dangerous too. It's a two lane highway and people are constantly passing. I've seen a few close calls. The 40 is deffinitely safer. If you really wanted to take the time you could take the 210 to the 15 then the 40 but it sounds like a long detour for you.

I've thought about taking that detour, but I try to keep the trip as quick as possible. My kids usually start going ape sh!t after a couple of hours, around Barstow on the usual route. I follow suit soon after, so the quicker the better.

I'm in RC so the 40 or the 10 are each an option... the 40 is faster to my house, about 3 hours

For piece of mind, take the 101 to the 134, thru Burbank. Then go to the 210 all the way out to the 15. This will take you up the hill, and to Barstow. Then you are on your own! We lived in the 'Valley' for all of our lives, and now the traffic is just unbelieveable, so use the 'new' 210, and enjoy it's direct route to the "15". The 138/deathtrap is not worth the drive! Please be carefull, and avoid longer routes. (58)

a couple of years ago I took the 58 route and a friend of mine took the 18/138 route. coming back from the river. I made it to the 14/138 split about 10 min before she did. I was doing 70mph on average, same with my friend.I prefer 14/138/18/15/40, the 10 seams like it just keeps going and going, and you have to leave by 2-2:30 or your screwed, If your coming from the west end of the Valley.

We live in Santa Clarita and the fastest method to get to Havasu is the route you mentioned. Taking 58 is 30 miles out of your way and about 20 minutes in time. Also, on most weekends the return trip is clogged at the junction of 395 and 58. You must contend with bigrigs on 58 as well but the likelihood of them entering your lane head-on is remote. Although, that route a safer route than the Pearblossom Hwy. if you don't mind the risk take your outlined route. 4 hours from the 14/Sierra Hwy on ramp to the London Bridge. We make this trip every 2 weeks and wouldn't use 58 unless there is an accident on I-15 that we hear about.

58 Is better then Pearblossom. Depending on traffic the 210 is the best way to go. But be careful on Friday night going through Devore.
