congrats, looks great
Hope to see you out here with it
30' boat with 800 HP = 102? I knew superboats were fast, but DAMN!!
RD
Dave hows it going?
The Superboat Y2K's I know of now are a
496mag HO at 74.1 mph
HP525 at 82 mph
custom 550 hp at 85 mph
blown 660 hp at 92 mph
There's another over 100mph but he's not sure of the horsepower. We'll see what mine runs in late June.

That oughta be interesting to see what it actualy turns!! If it does run over 100, then that's flat blowign the doors off most the west coast boats.

Dave,
Are you forgeting the Howard 28 Bullet? I know it's not as big though. The Supeboat is 32' overall.

The bullet is one of the faster west coast v-bottoms..
I know of a 27 that with 900'ish HP is expected to run low 90's
a 28 with 800 HP runs mid 80's
etc.. etc..

I just found a Powerboat article on Howard 28 with a HP500 (470hp) that does 76.7mph. That's close that the superboat did with the same motor. They must run into a brick wall above 80. Of course the speeds the Superboats are showing are in cool weather best to date #'s. So will I hit 102, maybe not, but it will run good. The X dimenssion may be my limiting factor. There's a few different setups out there on these boats.
I think it's interesting that when I do a curve fit on the power/speed numbers that is quite linear...r^2 of .9981. The equation is:
speed = 0.0769*horsepower+41.7
Using that, 800hp nets you 103...again assuming things are linear.
Here's a quick look up table based on that equation:
300hp 65mph
400 72
500 80
600 88
700 96
800 103
900 111
1000 119
So, the Y2K is a damn fast hull...no doubt or debate about that. Perhaps the fastest single engine deep v with any real length. I think the pic of the finished bottom is why - all those steps let the hull ride on air!
