You need a different type of paint not Krylon.Check West Marine
As I mentioned in my previous post "I Need A New Cover" I just bought a 20' Lavey w/ a 150 horse o/b and am looking to make her pretty. I was wunderin how it would look, or if it would be possible to polish/buff out the unit. Or, would I be better off just paintin her? If thats the case can I use good old Krylon from a can? Please let me know your opinions.

I Wanna Buff My Lower Unit
Its OK, everybody does it. But you may go blind.
If speed is NOT important,,, Then go ahead and paint it!
If Speed IS important,,, then Pretty is REAL slow! :2purples:

It will turn strange colors over time if you buff it but it will look good for a short while. Once you buff, you have to keep buffing.
If you want the polished look, sand it down to 800 and then paint it with clear coat.
Polished cases look good, IMO.
Oh yeah, Krylon is OK but I've heard the cheap Pep Boys paint will stay on better than anything at speed. You might try their clear product.
