I bought a new MSD distributer with a slip collar for my BBC. I tried to install it (without oil pump drive rod) and it will not "drop in". If I push on it, it will go down, but is very tight where the distributer housing goes through the block. I looked down through the hole in the intake manifold and there is some fine aluminum dust sitting there on the block, in the lifter valley, that is from the distributer housing and me pushing in into the block and pulling it back out. Should I just sand down the housing a little bit with some fine sandpaper? BTW it is a Bow Tie block.

Another question.
I have the Comp Cams composite gear installed on my distributer. I've seen where people cut a groove in the distributer housing, at the oil passage, to oil the gear. Would this composite gear benefit from the oiling groove?
