Dose anyone how I test a Mercruiser power steering unit to see if it's working correctly. The boat seems hard to steer and I know it's not the cable because I disconnected it and the wheel turns freely.

My assembly at the transom was leaking and just had it replaced. The steering is smoother now.
Are you losing any fluid.
