Well I gotthe mufflers installed over the weekend
MOTOR -468 BBC 10-1 C/R and lightning headers...
    the results
had a chance to run them to see how they work, well more quiet than I thought they would be. At idle is much more tollerable than open 4 inch tips.
Some observations about the sound of the set up now, as I said idle sound is low and really sounds pretty good. I was surprised that it was still loud but not bad. I could actually hear things in the motor I could not hear before, not bad things but just more in tune with the motor. When nailing it out of the hole sound is good and mellow up to about 4000 Revs and then it seems like the sound doubles, and up over 5000 revs it sounds totally different than open tips, not bad but different , almost metalic sounding.....very weird but I don't think it is a problem. Maybe some with the mufflers can tell me if that is normal. I am going to try and get a sound clip next time out.
Some things I noticed about the product itself is that they are well made and seem to be of great quality, the rolled edge on the tip looks nice but it seems it would hold water when finished with the trip. The mounting flange is a little smaller than the REX 4' tips I removed leaving a small but very noticable ring aroung the new tips, this is where a bezel would come in handy, also the countersinking for the mounting bolts is smaller in diameter than the Rex tips...so my pan head bolts are not flush with the mounting flange, yet ... I am going to get some new ones though.
Overall very happy with the set up, and don't get me wrong I love the sound of an uncorked big block but I think I will enjoy my boating on the weekends with my wife and friends more now that I will not be shouting over the motor when cruising around.Stealth mode is a good thing , for sure!
And by the way it looks like I lost about 50-100 RPMS and my top speed on motor alone with no juice and glass water...............78.6 GPS Muffled, I need to work some more on my set up and get back my couple of MPH ....I think I am going to go to a 2* wedge instead of a 4 * wedge.
So in closing ...........................Great product! and I am happy.

Thats good to hear... I just bought some so I can cruize the canal without worrying... And when I installed them they were a little smaller than the REX 4" tips. But they look clean... Just need to get the engine in.
Did you get the flappers or are you just running them open??

    Great description of the muffs!
Running mine on my 525. Similar experience! The best thing is the stealth mode. No stress operation.

Have Gibson bullets and also noticed the change in sound at higer rpm's.....they are a little on the quiet side but its definetly nice to be stealth and avoid any run in's with the man!!

So how did Gibson get away with advertising "no power loss" with their mufflers? It's obvious you're gonna lose at least a little power.

Honestly, I don't know that I lost much if any. For my entire break-in, without the Gibsons, I had 2 or three passengers and was hitting 70 at 4900 or so RPM. Since I put the muffs on I have had no less than three adults and was hitting 69-70 at around 4750-4800RPM.
I realy don't know what to attribute the loss to. All I care is that I need to reprop my boat to get the RPM's to 5,200 or more.

Please keep in mind there are different models to choose from. If the smaller Power Tips are being used on bigger motors, you can expect to possibly loose a little on the top end. With bigger motors, the bigger bullet styles should be used, and there wouldn't be a loss in power.

I am using the power tips 496 series transom mount mufflers on a 468 550HP BBC 10-1 CR and 600 lift cam......I think 50-100 REV' s is Acceptable. Nothing the Bottle won't fix :skull: I am going to spray it this weekend and see what it does.
Hey Bob sound totally different at WOT .... kind of metalic sounding ? Is this normal?

Also, condition changes have an impact as well. If you're using your baseline from a few weeks when the weather was different, cooler, than it was with the new mufflers/silencers, regardless of brand, and now it is warmer, you will see a difference in performance that is most likely due to a temperature increase which will result in the loss of some RPM.

    To add:
The PowerTip series Marine Mufflers were designed for 6.2L, 496,496HO & 500. Anything larger should use the Bullet series Marine mufflers.
    Thank you
