Thread: So slow

Spen thalf of the day yesterday out on Elsinore shaking down the Tahiti and only a couple problems came up. First was a water leak as we launched it. Not TOO bad, but definitely needs to be fixed.
Second, when I took off, I'd hit 3500 rpm MAX and top out at about 45. The pump is a little loose, but not bad. I'll live with it for the season. The custom cooler mount performed FLAWLESSLY (hey, there are priorities ya know).
After some testing we found that the secondaries aren't opening and it's killing me.
Here's the question. I get 45 out of a two barrel, so what's the consensus when I get all 4 barrels opening? It's a converted 4160 Holley (750cfm) vacuum secondary. If need be, I'll through my Proform on it to test.

Well, the concensus is that if you get the secs to open, you will probably see another 20 mph, and 1500 rpm out of it. Not to mention that you will see that 45 mph a lot quicker.

i dont know if you will get 20 mph maybe 12 or on those lines , to get the secondaries to open you need to put in a spring kit this kit allows you to change the rate at witch your secondaries come in at they (the kit a holley part) are avilble at most speed shops and cost around 20 bucks and they will make a big differnce. good luck email me with any ? http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

That's a Chevy way to do things! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif There's nothing wrong with a 4160 if you know how to tweak it. This one already has the secondary metering block added, and will make a good all around carb.
Try me out at Avi on the 12th! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://home.earthlink.net/~mwbbstang/t4.JPG

If you have a leak in your boat and you can't find it try filling the bilge with water. What leaks in will also leak out.I had a 455 olds with a magnum cam that didn't produce enough vacuum to open the secondaries.I switch to a double pumper and solved my problem

Okay BBTahiti,be honest with me about your engine first.I have a bone stock Indmar 454(330HP)with an MSD system, edelbrock performer and Holley 750 double pumper.I just put a Legend A impeller in it and honestly it will probably surprise you.I would highly recommend this impeller to any Berkeley owner. It gave me 2mph gain at same RPM and 3-4mph top end.So what kind of mill are you sporting?Be honest because I have sharp eyes and ears!Winner buys the silver!

I am running a bone stock 460 .040 over, with a Weiand stealth and the 750. The pump is a Berk jc, impeller unknown (must be an A) with a diverter. Hardin logs and risers. See, just a plain old Tahiti! You can spank it no problem (don't listen too hard). I may have to pull the Proform modified carb off the 68 for this trip though. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I agree Dump that single pump and get a double pumper. Youll get another 10 to 15 mph
You gotta rememeber the limits of your hull
Did the cooler have miller lite in it?
    Great Boat
