I had an uncle who flew a Lancaster during WWII. He was in England for a while but ended up working the flight school for most of the war. I guess they were really short on qualified pilots. He shared endless hours of stories with me. I could listen to them for hours and still could.
My grandfather was one of the few tank gunners who survived WWI. Apparently, there were only a hand full who didn't get picked off. He was pretty messed up after the war, though.

The F4 is cool, but not much compares to the F-104....."The missle with a man in it." OK maybe the SR-71. :rollside:

Not to mention the awesome velcro to keep the seat cushions from flying out, heck mine float if i tow faster than 75!!! Sorry i admit it, i am a serial speeder when i tow, something about wanting to get the hell there and get it wet. Oh wait thats another story for another thread.....

We had a family friend "Fish" Salmon, yes that was his real name , who was a test pilot for Lockheed and he'd come over have a few with my dad and tell some of the best stories about testing and the stuff they pulled, i could stay up for hours and listen to him go on and on about that stuff. I have a photo somewhere around here, have to scan it and post , he's in his flight suit next to a 104.

Here is what I spend most of my time in while flying for fun......1942 Boeing Stearman with P&W R985. It's one of my dads planes, took 5yrs on ground up restoration. About 200 of my 400hrs in this baby and its a blast to fly.

Like the old saying goes, "Real airplanes have tailwheels and round engines!"
