My parents softener rocks get clumped up in the softener, and someone told my mom about "shredded chrystals". Google failed me on this or maybe she heard wrong or misunderstood. Anyone know about this???

No expert here but, he is correct (or so I am told). Use the pellets, mine look like little footballs. Also, do not add until the salt level is way down.
