When looking at a used boat whats everyones opinion on Hours? How many is too many. Looking at a boat that appears to be real clean, its a 99 with a 265 hours on a merc 502? I have heard people say the 502's start to go south around 250 to 300 hours. Is this correct or BS?

IMO, a big block should go 800 ~ 900 maybe more without any major problem.

Less than 300 is a good rule of thumb.

I would say the condition of the boat has alot to do with how well the motor was kept. If the previous owner took very good care of the boat chances are the motor was serviced accordingly. Just my thought. Oh and a general rule is about 60-80 hrs per year
