is the G3 processor a direct drop in replacement for the 604e processor

Ouch, 1997 is the olden days. Not sure what you would replace it with. Try a Mac forum of calling Mac Solutions or something.
You are better off getting something more up-to-date!

Figured it out. The G3 and G4 processors will work. They are going into vision inspection stations that are already present in the field. The 604e processors are running to slow and starting to fail for the customer, the sonnet processor still available will speed it up a bit and keep us going. We are currently updating them to HI-RES vision but it is over a period of time. So in the meantime we need to keep the old one running. :220v:
