Is this a good pump and is it the right pump to throw hp at to try and make some speed with?

Well it will work but you may need a split bowl to really have the adjustability you may want, also you will be able to put a droop if you step up to a B or G bowl. There are some shops that will modify your bowl with a flange so that you can bolt on a droop.

There is a number on the back side of the bowl just before my place diverter that reads H-2484

This one you can see a black ring inbetween the bowl and droop that is a wedge. And if you buy a droop you do not one that looks like this one it is an Aggressor and they break !!!! You want a American Turbine or Berkeley Droop !!!
