Thread: Rod-Side Clearance

    Dose anyone recall the topic for rod side clearance? I belive it was discussed here before.Question...My rear rods #(7+8) are showing .032,the rest are around .023-.026...Crank was cut in the past 10/10.I'am thinking its ok to run em at that gap...any thoughts? I'am talking 468 Chevy,stock rods,reworked with ARP bolts.

    .013 to .023 who turned your crank they didnt leave enough radius more than likely on the journal

    I asked that question a while back because my new crank and rods were at 0.030 side clearance. I haven't run the motor yet, but the general concensus was that it doesn't mean much. The purpose of side clearance is for oil to exit the bearings and lube the cylinder walls. The amount of oil moving through is controlled by the bearing clearance. As long as the bearing clearance is correct, you are good. Don't bother with a high volume pump or high pressure, I run a stock pump on a 6500 rpm blown bbc and have zero bearing problems.

    Thanks Jim I'll go with what I've got...Oil psi was always strong anyway!
