Thread: Infomaniac's New Engine Project

Well I decided to de-tune the cougar this year. Take the blower and injection off and change the engine a bit.
Was 509 with 9:1 worked GM heads GM crank Eagle rods stock length solid roller Crane roller rockers and stud girdles. BDS 8-71 and Enderle Alcohol Bird. Pretty much stuck with some parts due to $$ limits.
I thought maybe I would up the cubes compression and RPM's to make up for no boost. Keep the alcohol but the main part is build the engine where I can still put the blower and injection back on if I get the urge
Soo... this year. Same Bowtie block 4.530 bore Callies 4.375 crank. Oliver 6.385 rods Custom Ross pistons Brodix BB2 plus STS heads and T&D shaft rockers. Pistons are 11.5:1 but the heads are angle milled to 110 cc's making 12.5:1
Had to clearance the block a bit to get a 4.375 stroke crank in a short deck block. Crank was cam ground on the counterweights also. Took a full stick of Mallory to balance it after all that metal was removed.

I chose the Oliver rods because of the horrific rod angle. Goes against my typical engine combination choice but you gotta use what you have sometimes. Plus I'm thinkin the short rod deal will suck pretty hard on the induction system helping the tunnnel ram work a bit better.

Went ahead and installed the pistons gambling that the valves would not hit. Did not have the cam yet so went for it.
Look close and you can see the old "O" rings milled off in the block. http://moritzmachine.com/pistons2.jpg

New Brodix heads. Had them angle milled before they drilled the head bolt holes. No intake or push rod drama to deal with. A little gasket match work done too. My friend BJ does this pretty cheap. I spring for the CNC ported heads when there is no boost helping air flow out.

Gotta install this shaft rocker set. What a pain in the butt shimming trial assembly etc. All the necessary tools and parts laid out. Went through 7 of the diet Rolling Rocks LOL

    Checked out good. Whew :notam:
Custom thickness Cometic gaskets in place of "O" rings and copper gaskets.

Some minor clearancing to the windage tray due to the new stroke and the pan goes on. Melling race pump. I get great deals on these if you want one.

Set the tunnel ram up there to take a look down the ports.

Great job BJ did on the manifold and heads. Cannot tell where the manifold and heads meet. Should flow well.

    Nice choice with those T&D's
Thanks man. Brodix machined the heads for them and I figured if I am gonna spin it 8,000 RPM I might as well not worry about the valve train.
