Thread: hey oldsquirt ?

    hey old squirt, you helped me out b-for maybe you can again,
    i have a ford 460, what can cause low oil pressure, thought i had water in oil
    but i drained my oil today(thursday) oil did not look to bad, put new oil in fire up boat only 10 psi @ idle, before i used to have 50-60 @ idle, what is normal @idle, gauge gos up when give it gas but gos down when idle.

    Did you also replace your filter? If so what brand?
    Some manufacturer's will say 10 at idle is OK as long as it has at least 10 per thousand rpm. I don't like seeing it so low and obviously something has changed since the water got in the oil. I would suggest rechecking pressure with a mechanical gauge.
    What you don't want to hear is that your watered down oil may have casued some bearing wear or wear in the oil pump itself.
