Just go easy for the first 10 hours. No sustained full throttle bursts. Also vary your rpm constantly.
Change the oil 2X in the first 10 hours. Perhaps after 1-2 hours and then @ 10. Then hammer away!
When I purchased my first boat the boat builder recommended I ignore the manufacturers recommended engine break in period. I did this and the boat has not given me problems with 200 hours of service. My buddy is picking up his new boat today. Does anyone have info otherwise? I would like to tell my buddy the same info.

Always have seen -avoid ; idle , lugging, any speed for longer a minute. Also, get up on freely running planning speed as much as possible. Watch max. rpm, say, 3,800rpm first 2 hours, 4,200 rpm next 8 hours, wide open next 10 hours. Change oil at 20 hours and then at 50 hours. This is what OMC, Merc, Volvo seem to say. Notice that hot boats seem to nail it much earlier. Do not know benifit of this except it is more fun.
Five minutes of warm up and oil temperature warmed up and drive it like you stole it.
I aggree.....fire it up, warm it up... and drop the hammer....TAKE NO SURVIVORS !!!!!!

THE 1ST 10 HRS ARE CRITICAL. VARY RPMS AND STAY OUT OF THE TOP 10K. DO NOT LOCK RMP FOR EXTENDED PERIODS. DUMP OIL AND REPLACE FILTERS AT THE TEN HR MARK. CHECK ALL FLUID LEVELS FOR DRIVES AND STEERING. RE-CHECK ALL FITTINGS AND CLAMPS THROUGHOUT THE ENGING AND DRIVE COMPONENTS. CHECK THE LINKAGES ALSO FOR PLAY AND LUBRICATION.
As soon as the prop touches the water its broken in.
