Thread: Tech questions on aligning out drives

    Twin engine cat. Assuming drives are aligned with engine how should you align the drives together. Completley even, towed in, or towed out?
    Help! please.

    The bottom line is they should be straight but if they can't be straight it depends on the way the props spin. If they spin in or out. I think if they spin in you tow in and they are spinning out then you tow out. Either way you should minmize the tow in or out because it will scrub speed off.

    I heard tow-in 1/8" (because the water comes off the bottom of the boat at an angle)...but I'm an idiot, too.

    We used to set the tow in 2 degree total on both drives. Set the drives at 90 degrees against the transom and then go 1 degree tow in on each. After that, you will figure out where to set your tie bar between the two drives.
