Thread: when do you want the max timing to come in on a twin engine boat?

    Do you want the max timing in at 2000, 3000, 4000 rpms. Twin engine, heavy 25ft boat Welcraft. MSD distr and MSD ign boxes.

    I would thisk the same as a single engined boat. Likely between 2,000 & 2500 depending on your aplication, I'd think 2500 on a pair of outdrives. As much as you can without causing detonation.

    if you look at merc hp specs all timing is usually in by 2800-3200 any lower and you could create detonation issues- i run a 32 pachanga w/ a pair of 450 hp 454's and all timing is in by 3000rpm and total timing is 32degrees- these are 9-1 compression engines w/ cams, heads intakes and exhaust systems- also forget base timing- total timing is much more important-set it w/ engine running at whatever rpm all your timing is in

    Most of the BBC's I know of are running a total advance of 35 to 36 degrees.
