    2000 Chevy Express van!!
    65k miles..
Just got a call saying the intake maniford needs to be replaced (lower manifod gasket)
PLUS the following work.. needs to be done. How does the pricing look. This is through another vendor not a dealer as out local dealership is hit and miss here..
    Two front rotors: $140.98 each = $281.96
Two front break pads: $49.70 each = $99.40
    New Master cylinder: $287.99
    Rear breakshoes: $119.73
Total parts: $836.97 Total labor: $511.50
He also said that we need to replace the lower Manifold gasket. The part itself costs about $90.00 and the labor is approximately 510.00 for this part alone.
Power steering pump replacement: $200.00 for the part and $170.00 for the labor.
If you want to repair everything, the total will be right around: $2320 to $2400.00
Should just throw this thing out.. No doubt the techs drive it hard??

I think I would ask a few more questions! Like why does the master cylinder and rotors need replacement? Why does the power steering pump need replacement? Some repair shops would rather replace parts in stead of lets say machine rotors. My last chevy went 250k with the same master cylinder. I did replace the fluid several times. The engine in your vehicle is fuel injected make sure your comfort level is good before you let them rip the intake off this thing. There are sensors, injectors and other componets and wiring that have to handled and carefully reinstalled. You might conside a second opinion.

For the love that is a lot of work for 65,000 miles. I would definitely think about getting a second opinion.
With dealerships such as Chevy offering great incentives on interest rates these days, I'd consider buying something new at this point. Might as well get a little depreciation out of your dollar.
I know we're offering 0% interest on a FMV lease right now with unlimited miles.

Is there an echo in here CC?
Intakes can be a 7year 70,000 mile warranty deal depending on why it is being resealed. Being a service vehicle, I could imagine that the rotors are in need of replacement. PS pumps on those vehicles tend to leak as well. Didn't see very many master cylinders that were in need of replacement though. The labor for the intake is cheap. None of the stuff really seems too far out of line. But I bet you could hold off on the PS pump. Depends on how long you intend to keep the vehicle in service.

The echo is gone. You were a tech guy.....are you gonna add anything valuable to this thread or did you just come here to harass me?

if it is a small block, the intake does not suprise me at 65k. we used to see them in the trucks and subs/tahoes with small blocks from 1996 and up with the vortec engine go at around 40k miles. it was like clockwork. you should be able to get the labor down on that. he has probably done a bunch and knows that those are money makers.

I manage a fleet of these vehicles. We have 50 plus of these vans. I only have a few of these around that year. Since our leases came up, we now have 04s and 05s. Anyhow, I don't think I've replaced one master cylinder in any of the older vans. Yours is only at 65K though with these probs? The few that I have are between 80 and 100K right now. I wanna say we've had to do the intake gaskets on almost all of them. Brakes are a given.
