A boat I am looking at has a slight tweek in the skag. Lost about a thumb size
piece at the end of the skag (at the triangle tip-end) and the skag has a ever so slight bend (1/2" at most) but only in the last 3" of the skag. Outdrive appears to be ok otherwise... no sign of shaft bent etc..
Can this be cold pounded back using resonable care or ??????

We hit a VW size rock above the Needles bridge and knocked a 'chunk' off our skeg, Prime Marine fixed it for usRiverDave sold us a prop
But then the little thingys that lift the engine drive up and down blew up.
I guess when you hit stuff, you need to know if they were running an aluminum or steel prop. If a steel prop, they could have damaged the engine drive thingy

Take It To A Weld Shop They Can Fix It Relativly Cheap.
NIce work Deb....."the thingy" LOL.
They can weld some new aluminum on the end of it and grind it back to shape. Be careful beating on it, it may not bend as easily as you might like.
It shouldn't be too expensive to fix, but I think if its that bent I'd take it to an expert before I made it worse... :hammerhea :wink:
Welding a piece back on shouldn't be a problem. But aluminum is brittle and doesn't like to bend. I'm no expert in working on boats, but I used to have a fab shop and if it was me I would probably remove all the bent area and re-build the skag from there.

WOW! now that is whacked...thanks for the advice. According to the owner he merley back-up at very low speed and caught a rock so maybe the other damage will not be present. I am thinking of moving ahead with the purchase.

No problem, it could be ok, I just know we hit pretty hard, didn't damage anything besides the skeg, prop and those lifter things.
We didn't find out about the lifter things until a month later at Lake Powell, suddenly at the END of our vacation our drive wouldn't lift up...I forget what they are called, I'm sure Mandy knows, or the very smart guys at Prime Marine :wink:
I've also been told about a "river" method of welding your skeg back on, they have to keep wet towels around the upper part of the drive so as not to damage it while welding.......I'm not sure how Prime Marine in Rancho Cucamonga did ours, but they did a great job :wink:
Louie at Kachina was concerned that we had damamed something else, can't remember what that was, you can also damage this if you jump your boat and your prop comes COMPLETELYout of the water!!
