I was just wondering which supercharger setup would be the least expensive and the best bang for the buck? centrifugal, roots, or twin turbo?about how much for a kit and what else is needed?
going to put it on a bbc 496 stroker currently has 10.5/1 compression, i know i will have to drop that, 049 castings with a 3 angle valve job but i plan on going with rectangular port heads, cam is comp extreme marine 278in.and 292ex. going to bigger boat need more power

    Covered engine?
I think a Roots kit is the least expensive.
The turbo stuff is very reasonable if you are handy enough to fab everything up yourself.
Drop the compression and double key the crank.

If i was you i would run something similar to whats in it now ... you can turn the boost down and run a smaller cam if you would like. If you wait till this winter i am sure there will be some blowers for sale and keep on about the carbs that are on it now thats a good deal.

I've got turbo's on my boat, truck, car, dune buggy, and Kubota tractor so you know my opinion.
After turbo's screw blowers are probably the next best.
Roots blowers are a cheap and easy bolt on but the bottom of the barrel in efficiency. Lot's of moving parts to wear out too.

    CALIFORNIA PERFORMANCE:
HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST TO PUT A TURBO ON A 350? That all depends,
Do you want a blow through or a draw through setup?
Do you want to run a carb or EFI ?
How much of the installation / fabrication can you do?
How much boost do you want to run? For anything over 10 psi you probably want an intercooler.
You may need to read up on the subject to come up with your requirements.
There's a local guy who put one big turbo on a 373" small block with EFI and dynoed 1050 HP with it.
He has it mounted in an S10 pickup and it's quite a sleeper. No hood scoop or anything to give it away except the wheel tubs are way into the box.
