Thread: alum. heads or steel heads??

    I am getting ready to order a 19" shadow from ultra with a 540 ci. merlin.Any help with the heads would be great! thanks

    If your getting 540" don't even bother with Iron heads. Unless that was going to be your anchor.

    One of main problems with alum heads is it needs to run hotter to get the same amount of power from a cast head. The alum does not hold the heat and BBC love heat, so you will need to run around 200 to get the same hp from cast.
    But for the shadow weight will make a big differance 75# less per side with alum. It all about being quick not fast and weight plays a big part

    Thanks alot I did decide to go with Alum. but nobody ever did tell me the wieght difference. Now that I know that I am really glad I went this route Thank alot!!!:>
