Spend the extra money and buy marine wire.Regular wire turns from a nice shiny copper to black with oxidation. It will be worth it in the long run.I Only use marine coated heat shrink connectors.Standard connectors turn green and fail quickly in a boat.

I just finished this job myself. I also went to the lake today and it ran!! WOOOHOOOO!!
Very much worth the effort. I still have some dialing in to do with the carb, but the ignition system and wiring are squared away. FWIW, there are some engine specific diagrams at www.cpperformance.com that are helpful.

    CP Performance Tech Page/Instructions (http://www.cpperformance.com/Instructions/default.htm)
If you decide to make your own harness, a supplier of marine wire and electrical supplies is Ancor Products (http://www.ancorproducts.com/). West Marine stocks many of their products.

Go to the bottom right of the page and select your engine type.
They are good diagrams but there may be a little twist or two, particularly if you are running a points ignition that uses a ballast resistor.

Looks like me and Old Squirt were typing at the same time! Sorry for the double-up.
