It really all depends on which 502 it is. Lots of choices !!!

Hey ST that is the same engine I've got. Do I hear "Volume discount."
396, What do you have your 502 in? And, what type of speed and rpm's are you seeing?
I've been talking to a few people and it looks like a head, cam, manifold, carb combo could get another 100+ hp.
Still trying to figure out which is the best setup for the buck. I'm hearing the Edlebrock is a good entry level high perf head, but will not last as long as some of the better ones i.e. Dart, Brodix, or others that have been talked about in length.
I've been told the ignition should probably go too. For warranty purposes, the advance is very limited.

Its actually in my friends boat. His tach says 4k @ wot but it might be wrong or unless he is running a "AA" impeller. We havent gps'd it yet. I will assume that he is running high 60's.

What type of boat does he have??
I'll be curious to hear what upgrades were done and the outcome. It may help me make my decision.

This combo was designed for the boater with a 502 engine that didn't want to spend the big $$$ for a an HP500 upgrade. The engine builder wanted:
    Smooth Power
    Good Idle Characteristics
Could be used with stock type exhaust / silent choice
Max power for a stock bravo unit
    Cost effective
I did some "consulting" and designed the cam around an engine to turn a max of 5500 rpm. Here is the results:
502cid - 100% stock short block other than min. deck cut to make flat
8.8 compression. Did not zero deck - pistons .012" down + .040" headgasket
    850 Sea Demon 82P 90S
    HVH 1" Super Sucker
    HV/Brodix 2000 Intake
Canfield 310 heads / CNC Chamber / No Port Work
    Cam - custom Hyd Roller Just under 225 at .050 I w/112LSA
2" Primary Schoenfield Headers - dyno mufflers
Will test Gill Exhaust again when done testing in this state
Belt driven Sea Water pump working - cross over - alternator working - no PS pump.
89 octane fuel - yep, Winter Blend right from the gas pump.
35 Degrees total timing - HEI external coil distributor ( yes, the computer one) with Jacobs amplifier/coil
    RPM HP Torque

This is a complete do it yourself project for the guy with a skill rating of 3 out of a possible 1 to 5, 5 being an excellent mechanic. This package will allow wife and kids to drive, dock, and move through the no wake zone without problems. No reversion issues with stock silent choice exhaust from Merc.
