Alpha Remanufactured Outdrives

I am getting ready to purchase one of the OEM replacments for my old alpha 1 drive. Sterndrive Eng. has complete units around $1,500 bucks.
Does anyone havew any comments or warnings before I make the deal.

Installed a lower only (aprox.19 months) low hours, 24'/454/ Alpha 1 (1.32 gears). OK so far. Installed complete on a 19'/ 5.7/ 4bbl, (aprox. 15 months), good use, 15/20 HRS per weekend. (1.50 gear). OK, so far. I feel the gears are a 'little soft' and if you are hard or very "shifty" it might not last too long. They have both outlasted their 1 year warranty, so it's your "call". Worth twice the price, but not like OEM.
