Is the starter hitting the backing plate?
Anyone ever need to shim their 3 point starter? What did you use and how well did it work? Thanks, Darren
Is the starter hitting the backing plate?
damn starter...I got one on my motor, and never ever got it staightened out. Nothing more embarassing than to show up with a horney lookin boat and have the starter zing the flex plate over and over.....
the castings for most aluminum flywheel covers are usually 70's era and used on mutiple engines over the years, they tend to slop out around the mounting holes resulting in the starter not engaging the ring gear as it should, the backing plate is machined to better tolerances and will align the flywheel cover and put the starter in the proper relation to the ring gear.
